Wigs
BS”D

Why are today’s wigs self defeating?  The headcovering for the married woman is in order that she not attract attention and not cause men to look at her, as only her own husband may look at her! It is actually a severe Torah Prohibition for a man to gaze at a strange married woman, as this may bring him immoral thoughts-which in some ways are harder than actual sins. This is a destroying fire says Dan Segal Shlit’ah!  The married woman is forbidden to attract attention and cause men to look at her-except of course her own husband.  And if she does this she is the tempter to a Torah  Prohibition- Heaven Forbid!   In the streets and market if she causes this stumbling block to the many men there, she is certainly in the category of one who tempts the many to sin [immoral looking and thoughts] and as a result, she can certainly lose her portion in the next world- Yerachem Hashem-unless she fully repents, which is not simple. Present day wigs, including the synthetic ones as a consequence of modern technology all have a sleek, natural and eye-catching appearance, are therefore essentially the same as revealing one’s own hair- ERVAH- in public!! Therefore they are self defeating and not at all Kosher for their specific use as a modest headcovering  by any stretch of one’s imagination.  These wigs are therefore called gentile wigs because they are used as accessories for immorality, by gentile actresses, etc.  We are repeatedly requested in the five Holy books-Chumash not to follow in the statutes of the gentiles-but by wearing these gentile wigs we transgress a prohibition of the Holy Torah,Vayikrah 18:3 “In their statutes do not go!" Another prohibition transgressed with wearing wigs publicly is “Do not follow the many to do evil [in Hashem’s eyes]  Shmot 23,2.  In Conclusion, due to modern technology- wigs are no longer stiff clumps- today they move and sway with our head movements just like our own hair and they are more eye-catching, provocative and natural looking than ever [this also includes all of the synthetic wigs] and therefore they are all in the category of being the full Torah prohibition of ERVAH.  This is the stated opinion of the leader of the entire generation-in Isreal- Rav Yosef Shalom Eliyashiv z'tsal, whom all of us religious Jews  must faithfully follow. Doing this brings the Divine Presence into our lives and grants us a good, sweet life in this world as well as in the next world!  We bring the Divine Presence into our lives only if we follow the great leader of the generation. Remember that wearing a Kosher and complete headcovering [without wigs, partial wigs] is a sanctification of Hashem everyday and hour of a woman’s life!  We are so privileged and fortunate. What a tremendous commandment and blessing this is. It also brings tremendous holiness to oneself, one’s offspring, one’s family and one’s community. This mitzvah is a tremendous kindness from our Beloved Hashem! I bless you that you merit to attain and to maintain a genuine Modesty for everyone's elevation and eternal benefit and also merit the final redemption with kindness and mercy, soon!
True testimonial: Although I didn't think I required a salvation, in any case I decided to change to a scarf-snood after hearing the words of the leaders of our generation, who encouraged this step. After I gave up the wigs I was able to see with an objective view what the wigs are all about. I meditated on this and became astonished, I didn't succeed to understand how in the world I didn't think of such simple things beforehand! How is it that I didn't feel that today's wigs are not what they are supposed to be, and how could I call my wig a modest wig?! Did my wig really give me a more modest look than when I was a seminary girl? Then, suddenly I understood that I really did require a great salvation: I was liable to live my entire life with a fake modesty, and miss out on my main purpose in this world! Thank G-d that I listened to the Leaders of the generation and that doing this brought the Divine Presence into my life! I am grateful for this!s
